At a glance:
- Sean Dyche was linked with Tottenham
- Spurs eventually turned to De Zerbi
- Englishman says Tottenham will get relegated
Tottenham Hotspur have just four Premier League games left to save themselves from relegation to the Championship.
Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival has given them a boost, but it looks like they need at least two more wins to stand a chance of survival.
Before the Italian, Dyche was linked with a move to Tottenham as they were on the lookout for Igor Tudor’s successor.
And now, the Englishman has had his say on whether the North London outfit will get relegated.
Dyche predicts Tottenham will be relegated
After Tudpr’s departure, Dyche was heavily linked with the job and it made sense.
He has quite the reputation of saving teams from the drop, having done so with Everton and Burnley a handful of times over the course of his managerial career.
Spurs beat Wolves last weekend but face Aston Villa on Sunday, who have fared quite well under Unai Emery this season.
And Dyche feels Tottenham are lacking x-factors in the team, like Son Heung-min and Harry Kane
“Spurs are in such an odd predicament, do you know what I mean?” said Dyche via talkSPORT.
“I can’t see someone popping up like the way Heung-min Son used to or Harry Kane – they used to pull you out of it, but I just can’t see it.
When asked if Tottenham will get relegated, Dyche responded, “I didn’t a few weeks ago, but I do now.
“They’re in real trouble now. It just hasn’t worked; maybe it’s coming, but it needs to come soon. Sometimes, it’s just about what’s going on.”
Dyche on Tottenham job
Shortly after De Zerbi’s arrival, Dyche revealed that he wouldn’t have taken the Tottenham job even for massive amounts of money.
“Let’s say you go in there and get the job done [not get relegated], then next season if you’re not in the top four and the football’s not what they want, then you’re rubbish and they want you out.
“So you’re not going to gain a lot there, are you? And that’s if you get the job done, because it’s not easy.”
However, his track record is proof that he’d have been the perfect man for the job. De Zerbi is clearly a long-term bet, but can he save the club from the drop?
