At a glance:
- Solanke the latest Tottenham player to get injured
- Englishman likely to miss the rest of the season
- Tottenham yet to officially confirm
Dominic Solanke may have just added to Tottenham’s injury woes after he limped off with a hamstring problem vs Wolves.
Roberto De Zerbi got his first win in charge of the club in what was a crucial result. However, their evening was soured by injuries to Solanke and Xavi Simons, who ruptured his ACL.
Tottenham have just four games to save their Premier League status as they face an uphill battle to avoid relegation.
And if reports are to be believed, they might have to do so without Solanke.
Hamstring injury for Solanke
Solanke hasn’t been at his best this season but has started each of De Zerbi’s first three games in charge of the club.
However, he limped off in the first half vs Wolves and was replaced by Richarlison, who is Tottenham’s top Premier League goalscorer this season with nine goals to his name.
After the game, De Zerbi allayed fears that Solanke could be out for the long haul.
However, The Telegraph report that he has suffered a grade-two hamstring injury, which could keep him out for the rest of the season.
The England international has struggled with injuries this season and hasn’t fired on all cylinders. But with Simons also out and a handful of key attackers missing, his injury is undoubtedly a massive blow for the club.
Tottenham’s attacking options vs Aston Villa
Tottenham are two points below 17th-placed West Ham United and need to build on their 1-0 win against Wolves.
They travel to Villa Park next to take on Aston Villa and will have to make do without Solanke and Simons.
Randal Kolo Muani is fully fit for Tottenham despite rumours on social media earlier today that he picked up an injury.
The Frenchman is expected to be stationed in attack alongside his compatriot Mathys Tel, while Richarlison will lead the line.
Tottenham have been reduced to their bare bones in attack as the likes of Solanke, Simons, Wilson Odobert and Mohammed Kudus are all missing.
They lack goals and creativity could also be a big issue after Simons’ ACL injury. We hate to say it, but things are looking bleak and Solanke’s injury may have pushed Tottenham closer to relegation.
De Zerbi genuinely needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat to get the Lilywhites out of trouble, as the prospect of Championship football is starting to loom large at N17.
