Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against Brighton on Saturday came with its fair share of drama and controversy.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side were three minutes away from securing their first Premier League win of the season to climb out of the relegation zone.
However, Georginio Rutter scored in the fifth minute of added time to give the Seagulls a point as Tottenham suffered a crushing blow in the dying embers.
Kevin Danso was at the heart of the crime scene and made a costly error that led to Rutter’s goal.
And now, the Swiss international has finally broken his silence after a handful of vile human beings attacked him with racist abuse online.
Danso releases strong statement
Constructive criticism of Danso’s performance is obviously ok and to be fair to the defender, he actually played quite well, barring his mistake.
Michael Dawson said Danso ‘switched off’ as his failed clearance was capitalised by Jan Paul van Hecke, who teed up Rutter for the equaliser.

After the game, the towering defender looked distraught, and it seemed to get worse for him in the hours that followed, as some of the so-called ‘supporters’ flocked to his social media handles to direct vile remarks at him.
And now, Danso has released a strong statement on Instagram, suggesting that the reaction to his performance won’t deter him.
“Not the result we needed yesterday. We gave everything, we learn and we move.
“I’ve also seen the comments. The racist abuse has no place in this game or anywhere. But it doesn’t define me, and it won’t distract me from what is important. I know who I am, what I stand for, and why I play.
“Now it’s about staying focused, working harder, and coming back stronger for the next games. We keep pushing, we keep believing, and we give our all every single time we step on that pitch.
“Stronger. Together. On to the next.”
Danso has everyone’s support at Tottenham
The prospect of relegation and football itself should take a back seat during such moments.
It’s 2026 and we’re still sat here on social media condemning racist abuse, which goes to show just how many vile human beings are present on the planet.

Danso wears his hat on his sleeve and has been a fantastic servant and an ambassador for the club since joining last January.
Yes, his error could have serious implications in terms of Tottenham’s Premier League survival hopes. But showering him with racist abuse on social media is hardly the solution as Tottenham need everyone to stick together during such a dire situation.
Gabby Agbonlahor referred to Brighton’s late goal as a typical ‘Spursy’ moment, while De Zerbi defended Danso immediately after the game.
With Cristian Romero missing for the rest of the season, Danso is likely to start again vs Wolves. We are all with you, Big Kev. Keep your head up!
