Tottenham Hotspur are already looking at a major squad revamp in the summer under Roberto De Zerbi, especially in defense.
The north London side are yet to secure their place in the Premier League next season. They sit in the relegation zone with just six games remaining and have zero league wins in over 111 days. They now need at least three wins, if not more, to save themselves.
However, amidst this uncertainty, Tottenham are already planning for the summer transfer market. They have identified some targets and are moving quickly, subject to their Premier League status.
Tottenham at risk of breaking rules for Marcos Senesi
Despite their league status in jeopardy, Spurs appear to have a few signings lined up already. Tottenham are set to sign Andy Robertson as a free agent after he leaves Liverpool. They have been linked with numerous other defenders.
Tottenham are also in advanced talks to sign Marcos Senesi. However, they might be at risk of breaking a Premier League rule while approaching him. As per the laws:
“A club shall be at liberty at any time to make an approach to a player with a view to negotiating a contract with him: T.1.2 in the case of a contract player, with the prior written consent of the club to which he is contracted.”
Any club can contact a player in May if their contract runs out on July 1 that year. However, if they are already said to be in advanced talks with Senesi, this means that Tottenham approached him way earlier. This could potentially be grounds for a failed transfer and even a fine, if Bournemouth file a complaint.

However, as per The Telegraph, the Cherries will not be doing so. With Senesi’s contract expiring this summer, they have been resigned to the idea of his departure for months. Hence, they are focused on looking for a replacement instead.
Tottenham suffered a similar situation with Morgan Gibbs-White last summer
Spurs were heavily linked with a potential move for Morgan Gibbs-White last summer. Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein reported that they had triggered a release clause worth £60 million in the midfielder’s contract.
However, Nottingham Forest alleged that the release clause was apparently hidden. They accused Tottenham of approaching the player without their consent, which a club cannot do. They even threatened to take the north London side to court if they pushed for the transfer.

Eventually, the deal broke through, and Gibbs-White signed a new contract with Forest that is valid until 2028. It was a huge moment last summer and has become even more significant now.
With six games remaining, both teams are in the relegation battle, and Gibbs-White could play a big role in keeping Forest up and relegating Spurs.
