Tottenham have been in the market for a left-back for around three years and now might sign two in six months.
The north London side signed Souza from Santos in the January transfer window. They were also heavily linked with Andy Robertson, but a deal didn’t materialize. However, Souza is just 19, and Destiny Udogie has been struggling with recurring injury issues.
Hence, Tottenham could look to further strengthen their defense in the summer. With Robertson announcing his imminent exit from Liverpool, Spurs will retain their interest in the Scotsman this summer.
Tottenham in ‘pole position’ for Andy Robertson
With their interest marked in January, Tottenham are in the ‘pole position’ to sign Robertson this summer, according to David Ornstein. However, this is subject to the north London side avoiding relegation and staying in the Premier League.
Spurs are currently 17th with zero league wins in 13 attempts and just one point above the relegation zone. They will have to fight hard to stay in the English top-flight. If they could manage that, they would likely be able to sign Robertson as a free agent.
In March, the 32-year-old opened up about Tottenham’s links with him in January and said (h/t Football.London):
“There was obviously interest there – there were discussions had with both sets of clubs. But the decision was that I wanted to stay. We stayed at Liverpool and that was the decision made.”

Liverpool decided to keep Robertson, especially after Joe Gomez suffered an injury against Bournemouth. The left-back has made 31 appearances across competitions this season and contributed two goals and two assists for the Merseysiders.
Robertson could be a big signing for Tottenham
Spurs have a host of issues from top to bottom, and one of them is the lack of leadership. They have lacked direction since sacking Ange Postecoglou and the departure of Son Heung-min last summer.
Most of their players have struggled to cope with it, with Ben Davies also out injured for most of the season.
A player like Robertson will not only bring his skills to Tottenham, but also his experience and legacy. The Scotsman knows the Premier League inside out, having made over 300 appearances in the competition and winning it twice. He is also one of the leaders in the Liverpool side and will be the same at Spurs.

Moreover, Tottenham have a host of young players in their squad, who could benefit from Robertson’s experience. He could especially help Udogie and Souza develop into top-class options for the future.
