A report from Deloitte earlier this year put Tottenham Hotspur as the ninth richest club in Europe’s Top 5 leagues. A few months later, they stare at the possibility of Premier League relegation.
The north London side are 18th in the league standings after 32 games, two points behind West Ham and three behind Nottingham Forest. With no wins in 14 games, Tottenham appear set for relegation.
Spurs finished 17th last season but were in no danger of relegation and won the Europa League. However, instead of building on it, they have just slumbered into an unprecedented position.
Gary Neville shares his thoughts on Tottenham’s potential relegation
Since the beginning of the Premier League, Tottenham have never been relegated or even really come close. They finished 17th last season, but were 13 points clear of the drop.
However, as they edge closer to it, the magnitude of a potential relegation is sinking in among fans and pundits. Gary Neville spoke about how big a news it would be if Spurs get relegated and said on Sky Sports:
“Is this the biggest club that’s ever gone down in Premier League history? Aston Villa are a massive club, but Tottenham have been in Champions League finals in the last five, six, seven years, and won the Europa League last year, this would be a monstrous moment.”
“Some say it would be good for the game because it would demonstrate competitiveness, that anybody can go down in the Premier League, just as when Leicester won it. It was the most phenomenal story that anybody can win the Premier League,” he added.
Neville further highlighted their 1-0 defeat against Sunderland and added:
“The unthinkable could happen. I think they’ll just get out of it, but I’ve got no confidence to sit here and say Tottenham are safe right now. Everyone knows they’re in massive trouble and it’s the unthinkable.”
The numbers behind a potential Tottenham relegation are staggering. While it would be fascinating for football in general, Spurs must avoid writing their names in history.
Can Tottenham avoid relegation?
With no wins in 2026, it appears impossible for Tottenham to avoid relegation. They likely need three wins and at least two draws in their remaining games to have any chance of survival. Even then, it is dependent on their rivals dropping points.
However, as seen over the years, every team is in the relegation battle because they have largely been poor all season. Hence, even one result could swing momentum enough to change the fate of a team. A 10-game winless West Ham beat Tottenham in January and are now out of the relegation zone.

Spurs need to find similar momentum. They don’t have time anymore, though. If they are to survive in the Premier League, they need to win, and the first of them must come against Brighton. With Wolves, Aston Villa, and Leeds to follow, it is the last opportunity for the north London side to string some results together.
