Tottenham are preparing for a major rebuild in the summer in all areas of the pitch after a disappointing 2025-26 season.
It’s currently unclear whether Tottenham will remain in the Premier League next season or not. However, they will certainly need a major squad rebuild in either case. While some players will leave for greener pastures, Spurs need major upgrades in multiple areas.
One of them is the attacking department. While they have missed James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, Tottenham’s attack has been poor this season. They have scored just 40 goals in 32 Premier League games, one of the lowest in the league.
Tottenham want Celtic’s Benjamin Nygren
Spurs are looking to sign players who can make an immediate impact this summer. One of the players they have identified is Benjamin Nygren from Celtic, as per Sports Boom.
The Swede has scored 19 goals and provided eight assists in 51 games across competitions this season and is Celtic’s top scorer. He can play in numerous positions like attacking midfield, either wing, or even as a second striker.
Former Bhoys head coach Brendan Rodgers labeled him “flexible” last year and also lauded his leadership qualities. He said (h/t Celtic Way):
“I’m really excited about him. He’s a talent, but it’s about how these boys adapt to the pressure of being at Celtic. So far, he has done very well. He moves so well. He’s fluid, he can play, one or two touches.”
“I want to improve the intensity of his pressing but that will come. He covers the ground so easily. He can take the ball up the pitch and he has a lovely, deft pass on him. He’s a young player but he’s also a leader. He’s got a profile, he’s got authority. He was obviously captain for his former club so has great leadership qualities.”

According to the aforementioned report, Celtic could sell Nygren this summer for £26 million, with his contract expiring in 2029.
Nygren makes a lot of sense for Tottenham
Spurs have recruited many young players in recent years. However, this has been detrimental as they need time to develop. In the meantime, their first team has struggled massively across all competitions, especially due to injuries.
They then went in the other direction and signed players like Joao Palhinha and Conor Gallagher, who are experienced but don’t fit an attacking playing style.
Nygren, however, sits in the perfect balance between the two. He will be 25 in July and can make an immediate impact after coming in from the Scottish League. He is also flexible and provides a tangible goal threat.
The Swede also earns £20,000 at Celtic, so Tottenham won’t have to break their wage structure for him even if they quadruple his salary. Moreover, he already has a relationship with Lucas Bergvall and Kulusevski, who can help him settle in.
Hence, both in terms of on-pitch and off-the-pitch attributes, Nygren could be a smart signing for Spurs. However, they will need to stay in the Premier League to secure his services as he can’t see him swapping the Scottish top-flight for the Championship.
