Tottenham told to make shock move for ex-Arsenal captain: “Terrific signing”

Tottenham have appointed Roberto De Zerbi as their new head coach, offering him a five-year deal. They are expected to rebuild their squad under him this summer.

Tottenham are currently battling relegation, sitting one point above the drop zone with seven games to go. Regardless of whether they stay in the Premier League or in the Championship, they are expected to undergo a squad rebuild.

While overall, Spurs have some good players, they need work in all areas of the squad, including attack. The departures of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min still haven’t been addressed, which has been evident this season.

Andy Brassell tells Tottenham to sign ex-Arsenal star

With De Zerbi as their new head coach, Tottenham have been linked with some of his former players. Pundit Andy Brassell also believes they should sign a few of them, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The striker, who played for Spurs’ rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, played under De Zerbi at Marseille.

Brassell said on talkSPORT:

“Perhaps a little bit out there for some people, I’d go for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He’s going to turn 37 in the summer, so it’s a short-term signing. It would be for a good time rather than a long time. He has been so good since he’s left the Premier League.”

He heaped praise on Aubameyang’s ability to both score and provide assists and added:

“Now he’s still got really good pace actually, not quite what it was when he was 29 obviously, but he’s still quick enough. He’s so unbelievably intelligent, he stretches the game by taking the ball down the flanks, he defends really tigerishly. He keeps himself incredibly fit. He scores and creates.”

Although Brassell admitted that a move might not be possible due to the Arsenal connection, he asserted that it would be a “terrific signing” for Spurs. Aubameyang made 163 appearances for the Gunners, recording 92 goals and 21 assists.

He also has eight goals and one assist in 13 appearances against Tottenham with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Borussia Dortmund.

Aubameyang move a non-starter for Tottenham

Aubameyang played 28 games under De Zerbi at Marseille, scoring 10 goals and providing 10 assists. Hence, his connection with the Italian could be helpful. However, he will turn 37 in the summer and is unlikely to be a long-term solution for Tottenham.

Spurs currently have Richarlison and Dominic Solanke as their main strikers. Randal Kolo Muani is expected to return to PSG after his loan spell, while there is speculation about Richarlison’s future at the club.

Tottenham have been linked with strikers like Goncalo Ramos (via TeamTalk). While any potential move for a top striker hinges on them being in the Premier League, Spurs should be aiming for a striker who can challenge Solanke.
