Cristian Romero has endured a tough season on and off the pitch for Tottenham Hotspur.
The mercurial Argentine has been vocal on social media about the club’s structural frailties during a campaign that could well go down in history for the wrong reasons, with relegation looking increasingly likely.
Off the pitch, Romero hasn’t been at his brilliant best, having already received two red cards so far this season.
However, he is set to return to the team for the UEFA Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid, proving a timely boost for under-fire boss Igor Tudor.
And now, Pedro Porro has addressed the speculation surrounding the Tottenham captain’s future, who has, interestingly, been linked with tomorrow’s opponents.
Porro laughs off Romero Tottenham exit claims
Atletico Madrid have been linked with a move for Romero and tomorrow’s game could well be his dress rehearsal at the Wanda Metropolitano.

He is set to return to the starting lineup after missing the last four games domestically, with Tottenham losing each of them in the Premier League.
Alongside Tudor, Porro was involved in pre-match media duties, when a journalist asked him if he’s seen rumours linking Romero to a departure – presumably to Atletico Madrid.
“No, well… it’s true I saw a couple of things, but we didn’t actually discuss it with him,” replied the Spanish international.
“If we talked about everything that’s out there, we’d never finish (laughs).”
Tottenham open to selling Romero in the summer
Considering how things have gone this season, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see Romero leave the club in the summer, especially if Tottenham get relegated.
He signed a new contract in August 2025, but since then, things have quickly gone south for him at N17. His own form has dipped, and his relationship with fans and the hierarchy has been strained by his social media comments.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Tottenham are open to selling Romero at the end of the season as they feel it is the right time to part ways with him.
The report also states that the defender wanted to leave the club after winning the UEFA Europa League, but Tottenham weren’t willing to entertain low-ball offers, due to which they stood their ground and convinced him to put pen to paper on a new contract.
Aside from the Argentine, a handful of other players like Guglielmo Vicario and Porro himself could also be on the move, with the club willing to cash in on them if suitable offers arrive.
