Romero attracted interest from the likes of Barcelona, Inter Milan and Arsenal, but Atletico Madrid won the race to secure his signature.
Tottenham released an official statement on their social media handles as they thanked the Argentine for his contributions over the years.
They wrote on X: “A warrior on the pitch, a key part of our Europa League triumph and captain for the 2025/26 campaign.
“Good luck for your next chapter, Cuti.”
And Romero, for his part, also released an emotional statement as he bid farewell to the Lilywhites faithful.
Romero’s Tottenham career ended rather unceremoniously, but he always wore his heart on his sleeve and fought for the badge.
