Tottenham are expected to confirm two notable defensive departures in the coming week: Djed Spence and Cristian Romero.
The England international is headed to Inter Milan, while Atletico Madrid have successfully agreed a deal to sign the Argentine defender.
Tottenham have already replaced Romero with the additions of Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi, so they are well covered at centre back.
As for Spence, however, they need a player who can cover both flanks and are likely to scour the market for his replacement.
Earlier today, there were reports that Tottenham wanted to sign Amar Dedic from Benfica. And now, it appears as if Newcastle United have stolen a march on his signing.
Tottenham target Amar Dedic heading to Newcastle United
Ben Jacobs confirmed on the Last Word on Spurs podcast that the Bosnian was a target for Tottenham, along with Crystal Palace’s Daniel Muñoz.
He said: “Daniel Muñoz is a player that Tottenham have talked about at the start of the window, but will need to act quickly, with Everton interested”
“Amar Dedić has made the Tottenham shortlist as well.”
This was earlier this morning, but Romano has now poured cold water over claims that Tottenham could sign him as he broke the news involving his move to the Magpies.
The Italian wrote on X: “Newcastle are closing in on Amar Dedić deal! Personal terms agreed with 23 year old fullback.
“Dedić wants #NUFC move and agreement at final stages with Benfica for final fee over €30m package.”
Dedic wants the move and Newcastle will move quickly to finalise the transfer after missing out on so many players this summer.
If Tottenham want a proper replacement for Spence, they will now have to look elsewhere as the Bosnian is headed to Tyneside.
