We got Friday morning off to a strange start as we relayed claims that Arsenal tried to sign Cristian Romero from Tottenham earlier this summer.
The Argentine, valued at €40m, has been linked with Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid as well, and at this point in time, no one knows where he’s headed.
This saga has more twists than one would have imagined.
But now, Gaston Edul, a journalist who has been close to all the main Argentine players over the years, has an update on the situation.
Arsenal not giving up on Cristian Romero
The Gunners desperately need a central defender after it was confirmed that Willian Saliba’s back problem will keep him out for 3-4 months at least.
Edul wrote on X: “Cuti Romero’s situation: Inter Milan has a deal with Tottenham but not yet with him.
“Atlético Madrid is about to make an offer that matches Inter Milan’s. The sales of Molina and Almada gave them room to be able to bid.
“Arsenal’s interest in Cuti Romero is real. The most active club is Atlético Madrid.”
Everyone associated with the club needs this saga to finish ASAP and for Romero to join anyone else other than Arsenal. The thought of a Tottenham captain playing for the Gunners is driving all of us mad, it has to be said.
