‘Medical today’ – Journalist confirms Tottenham have sold player for 10x profit

Tottenham Hotspur news round-up graphic covering the latest club talking points

Over the years, Tottenham Hotspur’s recruitment has come under a bit of scrutiny.

Their incoming transfers have been a mixed bag, which is a far cry from what was the case under Mauricio Pochettino.

In terms of outgoings, they never got fair value for their players, which was another worrying sign.

However, they’ve already sold Luka Vuskovic and Will Lankshear for a combined 70m, which is a massive boost to their transfer kitty.

Earlier today, we relayed claims that Ashley Phillips will join Middlesbrough in a deal worth £7m.

However, it appears as if that figure was incorrect as the Lilywhites have got themselves a fantastic deal.

Tottenham to net £20m from Ashley Phillips sale

Phillips has spent two successful loan spells at Stoke City, so he will take to the Championship like a duck to water.

Michael Bridge confirms that the Lilywhites will net around £20m, including add-ons, from his sale to Boro, which, quite frankly, is a sensational deal.

“Middlesbrough agree deal with Spurs to sign defender Ashley Phillips,” wrote Bridge on X.

“£7m guaranteed. Deal includes £13 million in add-ons plus 20% sell-on and matching rights. £20m total package. Medical today.”

Phillips will do well at Boro and Tottenham have got themselves a great deal, so this is a great deal for everyone involved. Having signed him for £2m in 2023, Tottenham have done incredibly well to get themselves a sizable 10x profit.
