Tottenham transfer news as late Cristian Romero hijack claim emerges

It’s safe to say everyone associated with Tottenham Hotspur is living their best lives during the ongoing summer transfer window.

Roberto De Zerbi has breathed new life into a club that desperately lacked direction and character.

And now, the Italian has been backed with the biggest transfer kitty in the club’s history, with as many as six new players joining the club.

A lot has been written about Cristian Romero recently and we have no idea where he’s going to end up.

However, his Tottenham career is over as teams across the continent continue to pursue his signature. And now, Simon Jones has delivered an interesting update on the Argentine defender.

Atletico Madrid still in for Cristian Romero

Romero has been locked in talks to sign for Inter Milan for a few weeks now. However, the Italian giants recently announced the signing of John Stones on a free transfer, so there have been reports that they could drop their pursuit of Romero.

Earlier this week, De Zerbi confirmed that Romero will surely leave Tottenham, which is something we’ve all known for a while now.

And now, according to the Daily Mail, Atletico Madrid have still not given up hope of landing the experienced defender.

Diego Simeone’s side were linked with a move for Romero earlier this summer, but once the Inter Milan links emerged, it appeared as if they had dropped out of the chase.

Barcelona’s interest has also been mentioned, but at this point in time, Inter are still leading the race.

And whether or not Atletico or Barcelona make a move remains to be seen, but Jones’ report certainly confirms that Atletico have rekindled their interest and could well look to hijack the deal.
