Tottenham player in advanced negotiations to leave after €20m bidding war

After spending over £230m on six new additions, Tottenham Hotspur are now focused on outgoings to fine-tune their squad.

Luka Vuskovic and Will Lankshear have been noteworthy sales so far, while a handful of other young players have also departed the club.

Tottenham’s left-back options for the forthcoming season have been bolstered by the arrival of Andy Robertson from Liverpool, who joins the experienced Ben Davies and Destiny Udogie in that position.

That leaves young Brazilian Souza in a spot of bother as he has quickly fallen down the pecking order.

And now, if reports from Brazil are to be believed, he is close to sealing a transfer to Portugal.

Souza close to Tottenham departure

Globo report that Porto are now in advanced negotiations with Tottenham for Souza after agreeing personal terms with the player.

This comes after the Portuguese outfit moved to beat local rivals Benfica, who submitted a €20m bid to secure the left-back’s signature.

The two clubs will look to pip one another to secure Souza’s signature, but judging by the tone of the reporting, Porto are well and truly in the driving seat.

The report also confirms that Souza’s agent, Giuliano Bertolucci, is currently in Portugal to handle the negotiations, so the deal could be concluded swiftly.

Santos retain a 10% sell-on clause, so if the player is sold for €20m, they are set to net around €2m from his transfer.

Souza joined the club in January but has struggled for game time. And a lot has changed at Tottenham since he signed for the club, so it might be in the best interests of all parties to go ahead with a sale.
