Xavi Simons is unlikely to feature for Tottenham Hotspur this year after tearing his ACL during the back end of last season.
The timing of his injury was horrible as he missed the Lilywhites’ relegation run-in, while he was naturally omitted from Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Simons was one of the best players under Roberto De Zerbi when the Italian replaced Igor Tudor at the helm and will look to return to action at some point during the 2026-27 campaign.
And now, while he has pledged his future to Tottenham, he has refused to close the door on a return to boyhood club Barcelona.

Simons was well known within footballing circles when he made waves as one of La Masia’s brightest prospects.
However, since then, he represented the likes of PSG, PSV Eindhoven and RB Leipzig before finding his way to Tottenham last summer.
The Dutch international has shown his commitment to the club through his gestures and social media actions and has been well received by the Tottenham faithful.
And while Simons is desperate to win a trophy in North London, he has kept the door open to a potential return to Barcelona in the future.
“You know, I’m focused now on Tottenham,” said the Dutchman via the Sports Agents podcast.
“I really have goals that I want to achieve, and I want to bring that joy to the fans as well, because they’ve been through a difficult, roller coaster, I would say.
“So, I want to bring that to them, and I’m willing to sacrifice everything.”
When asked about a return to Barcelona, he added: “Yeah, I wouldn’t say I closed the door, but it’s just, like, I’m really happy in Tottenham.
“I want to play in the Premier League and I want to show that I can bring a title to Tottenham, and that’s my goal right now.
“And I’m what I say, I’m willing to sacrifice everything just to bring trophies at home.”
