Tottenham Hotspur have already made a massive impression this summer with their transfer business so far, but they aren’t finished yet.
Benfica’s Andreas Schjelderup is a target for the Lilywhites as he continues to attract interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe after his exploits at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Norwegian stood out in a team that had the likes of Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard, among others, which is no small feat.
And now, reports from Portugal have confirmed that Benfica will ask for at least €50m to part with their prized asset.
Benfica want €50m for Schjelderup
Schjelderup’s development has been rapid in recent seasons, especially since his move from Nordsjælland in Denmark.
The World Cup proved to be another massive step in the right direction as he scored three goals, including a stunner against England in the Round of 16.
Portuguese newspaper Record claim that Tottenham are willing to offer around €40m, which at one point was seen as a fair fee for the 22-year-old.
However, after the World Cup, the Portuguese giants are trying to increase the asking price and won’t settle for anything less than €50m.
Schjelderup is currently on holiday and will expect to sort out his future in the coming days, with other clubs like Liverpool also interested in signing him this summer.
Michael Essien lauds Schjelderup
Michel Essien feels the 22-year-old has all the tools to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.
Speaking to VG before the World Cup, the former Chelsea midfielder said, “Schjelderup has everything it takes to take even bigger steps.
“The sky’s the limit. Schjelderup can play for the world’s biggest clubs, and I’d obviously love to see him at Real Madrid or one of the other big clubs.
“I watch Benfica matches whenever I can. When Andreas (Schjelderup) runs with the ball, it almost looks as though he’s quicker with the ball than without it. Not many players have that. When he gets going, he’s hard to stop.
“First, of course, you see the talent. He’s extremely skilful and incredibly comfortable on the ball, but then you see the person. He was respectful.
“He listened. He asked questions all the time. He wanted to learn. Many young players try to do difficult things. Andreas made it look easy.”
To be quite honest, both teams aren’t too far off in terms of their valuations, so there could be a deal to be done here if they continue to remain in talks.
