In recent weeks, speculation surrounding Cristian Romero’s Tottenham Hotspur future has dominated the back pages.
The Argentine missed the back end of the 2025-26 Premier League season with an injury he sustained against Sunderland after a needless push from Brian Brobbey.
Since then, things kind of got worse for Romero as he was spotted jetting to Argentina while Tottenham were fighting relegation, a gesture that wasn’t well received by the fans.
And now, with the 2026 FIFA World Cup also out of the way, Romero has taken a big step towards leaving Tottenham.
Cristian Romero says yes to Inter Milan
Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari has been spot on about a handful of transfers in recent months and had his say on Romero’s move to Inter Milan earlier today.
He wrote on his X account, “Cuti Romero’s decision to leave Tottenham is confirmed, as is Inter’s approval of the Argentine scooped in exclusive at the beginning of July.
“The Nerazzurri continue their contacts with Romero’s entourage and have received the direct interested party’s openness to the destination.
“Prices still too high, but Cuti is a profile that fully convinces.”
Tottenham well-stacked in central defence now
Judging by his latest update, there is a willingness between all parties involved to get a deal done, but it won’t happen for any price.
Tottenham have already signed Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi and have made peace with the fact that Romero would be leaving this summer, so they won’t lose too much sleep when he actually does.
Micky van de Ven and Kevin Danso are also still at the club, so they have a decent central defensive unit under De Zerbi this time out.
However, they won’t sell Romero for cheap as he is wanted by some of the biggest clubs in the world, including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Tottenham managed to get around £50m for Luka Vuskovic even though the Croatian didn’t play a single competitive minute for the club.
And they will look to repeat their trick with Romero, whose future is set to be decided in the coming days.
