- Tottenham travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea
- Roberto De Zerbi lauds Moises Caicedo
- Italian knows Chelsea midfielder very well
Tottenham Hotspur can mathematically secure their Premier League status with a win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge later today.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side have really improved in recent weeks, picking up eight points from their last four games in the competition.
That said, they’ve won just once at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League era, which was under Mauricio Pochettino in 2018.
Nevertheless, Tottenham will look to continue their four-match unbeaten run to capitalise on West Ham United’s defeat against Newcastle United.
And De Zerbi has spoken about Moises Caicedo, whom he knows well after his stint with Brighton.
De Zerbi lauds Moises Caicedo
Caicedo quickly became one of the best midfielders in the Premier League under De Zerbi after joining the Seagulls from Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle.
He moved to Chelsea for a then-Premier League record fee, which was eclipsed by the fees Liverpool paid for Florian Wirtz first and later Alexander Isak in the summer of 2025.
And De Zerbi feels Caicedo is a ‘complete’ player as he went on to sing his former ally.
“Caicedo was a great player [at Brighton], it was a pleasure working with him,” said De Zerbi in his pre-match press conference via Football London.
“Like Robert Sanchez, like Levi Colwill and Joao Pedro. I think Caicedo now is one of the best midfielders in the world. Because he’s a complete player, with the ball, without the ball.”
Tottenham Hotspur know how to stifle Caicedo
De Zerbi knows Caicedo more than any other manager in the world, so he will set his team up to counter his threat.
Rodrigo Bentancur is a shoo-in for a spot in midfield and Conor Gallagher is likely to start as an advanced midfielder.
For the other No.6 spot, De Zerbi could turn to Joao Palhinha. Much like Caicedo, he doesn’t shy away from tackles and breaks up play efficiently, which could be key for Tottenham later today.
After singing Caicedo’s praises, the Italian lauded his own midfield options, which is a sign that he is confident with what he’s got at the moment.
“But also, our midfielders are very good. Palhinha, Bentancur, Gallagher and the others: Gray, Bissouma, Bergvall, Pape, Sarr. I’m happy because I’m working with my players.”
Tottenham don’t have too many options to choose from due to their injury concerns. However, De Zerbi will use his prior knowledge of Caicedo’s gameplay to set his team up accordingly at Stamford Bridge.
