At a glance:
- Paul Merson predicts Tottenham to lose to Leeds
- Two teams face each other on Monday
- Tottenham just a point above the relegation zone
After successive wins against Wolves and Aston Villa, Tottenham will aim to steer further clear of the relegation zone when they take on Leeds United at home tomorrow.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side have three games to secure their Premier League status as they find themselves just a point above 18th-placed West Ham United.
The Hammers face Arsenal tonight in a game that could have serious implications on both ends of the table, so Tottenham will undoubtedly have one eye on that game.
The Lilywhites have their destiny in their own hands, though. However, Paul Merson feels Tottenham’s momentum will be halted by Leeds United tomorrow.
Paul Merson says Tottenham will lose to Leeds
While the Arsenal icon acknowledged that Tottenham have been good under De Zerbi, he feels Leeds have enough in their locker to get a positive result despite injuries to key players like Noah Okafor.

“Tottenham played well the other day against Aston Villa,” wrote Merson in his column for Sportskeeda.
“I thought Villa were a joke, but the Spurs from six months ago wouldn’t have won that game! They have definitely made progress under Roberto De Zerbi.
“Leeds have been outstanding in recent weeks. Barring the FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea, they have lost just one out of their last nine games.
“If Leeds are in the mood, they can hurt Tottenham. There’s no doubt about it.”
“I actually feel sorry for West Ham because Tottenham are playing Leeds at a favourable time.
Merson predicted a 2-1 defeat for Tottenham at home, which would be a serious blow in their race to avoid the drop.
“We know it’s all about timings in football. If Leeds were still heavily involved in the relegation battle, they would have been a huge test for Tottenham.
“Now I fear they might take the foot off the gas against Spurs on Monday. This is a hard game to call. Even if West Ham lose to Arsenal, Tottenham should win this game.
“They cannot let the relegation battle go down to the final day of the season. I don’t expect Spurs to beat Chelsea in the next game.
“So this is a hugely important fixture for them. I just can’t back them against Leeds though. I think they lose this one!”
