At a glance:
- Guglielmo Vicario’s Tottenham future in doubt
- Inter Milan linked with Italian goalkeeper
- His move could break down
Tottenham Hotspur are likely to have multiple outgoings this summer, regardless of whether they stay in the Premier League or the Championship.
Spurs are preparing for a big rebuild under Roberto De Zerbi. Having given him a five-year deal, they need to build a squad that is suitable for his playing style.
The north London side will also see many departures this summer, especially if they get relegated. However, some players, like Guglielmo Vicario, have been linked away even if they stay up.
Vicario’s move away from Tottenham in jeopardy
The Italian goalkeeper has been consistently linked away from Spurs this summer. It was reported last month that Vicario has reached ‘full agreement’ with Inter Milan for a potential transfer.
Their current goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, is set to depart as a free agent at the end of the season.
However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter Milan are now having doubts about whether to sign the Tottenham star or not. Sommer is still expected to leave the club. The Italian giants are considering promoting their current second-choice goalkeeper, Josep Martinez, to No. 1.
Spurs value Vicario at around £17 million, around the same fee they paid for him from Empoli in 2023. Meanwhile, Inter only have a transfer budget of around £37-45 million this summer, excluding outgoings. Hence, they are considering using their funds elsewhere.

Martinez has made 18 senior appearances for Inter Milan since arriving from Genoa in 2024, keeping nine clean sheets.
His contract with the club is valid until 2029. According to the aforementioned report, Inter could still sign another goalkeeper, who would be cheaper than Vicario, this summer.
Vicario has been underappreciated at Tottenham
The Italian goalkeeper arrived from Empoli in 2023 and instantly became the first choice at the club. He has made some tremendous saves during his time at Tottenham and was also good in a possession-based playing style under Ange Postecoglou.
However, he suffered under Thomas Frank, as every other Spurs player.
Many will remember Vicario for his recent mishaps. However, it was revealed that he had been suffering from a hernia for weeks before undergoing surgery in March.
He also put in some tremendous performances earlier this season, which led to Tottenham getting some rare positive results.

Overall, it’s arguably best for both parties to part ways this summer. Moreover, Antonin Kinsky has performed well in his absence under Roberto De Zerbi.
However, Vicario should be remembered for his largely excellent performances in his 117 appearances for Tottenham.
