At a glance:
- Micky van de Ven earlier linked with Tottenham exit
- He’s made a big U-Turn
- He’s open to staying under Roberto De Zerbi
Tottenham Hotspur are planning for the upcoming summer transfer window, despite their Premier League status hanging in the balance.
The north London side have the relegation battle in their hands, sitting one point above the drop zone. If they can avoid going down, they might be able to revamp their squad in the summer.
Moreover, Roberto De Zerbi has already brought in a major change at Tottenham on the pitch. However, it appears that he has impressed many players off the pitch as well.
Micky van de Ven is open to staying at Tottenham
One of the most consistent names among the many players linked away from Spurs this summer is Micky van de Ven. Manchester United are interested in signing the Dutchman. Meanwhile, Liverpool and Barcelona have also been linked with him.
A few weeks ago, it appeared certain that Van de Ven would leave the north London side this summer. However, journalist Ben Jacobs has reported that he is now open to staying at Spurs if they stay in the Premier League.
De Zerbi has brought about a major change of heart, as the journalist told GiveMeSport:
“If Tottenham stay up, my information is that Micky Van de Ven is extremely open to signing a new deal. Now he’s very happy with Roberto De Zerbi as manager, and De Zerbi coming in has enhanced the chances of Tottenham staying up, that Van de Ven signs a new deal, and [Cristian] Romero still goes.”

This would come as a huge boost for Spurs, who are already resigned to the idea of losing Cristian Romero in the summer.
Van de Ven staying could be huge for Tottenham
The 25-year-old defender has faced a lot of criticism this season for his performances and even his general attitude.
However, he is still a really good defender who hasn’t even reached his peak yet. Hence, his staying could be vital for Tottenham, especially if they are going to play a high-possession football with a high line.
Moreover, if he stays, it would also display a big commitment towards De Zerbi. Van de Ven appeared to have a spat with Thomas Frank, but is now clearly improving under the Italian.
This could perhaps push the Tottenham board to support De Zerbi. However, they sacked Ange Postecoglou despite his connection with the players, so one would take it with a pinch of salt.

Van de Ven has made 93 appearances for Tottenham since arriving in 2023 from Wolfsburg. He has also scored 10 goals and provided three assists.
He made an incredible goal-line clearance in the UEFA Europa League final, which helped Spurs end their 17-year trophy drought as well. His current contract expires in 2029.
