At a glance:

  • Tottenham will strengthen this summer
  • Roberto De Zerbi is keen on 2 Serie A stars
  • Potential signings dependent on Spurs’ PL status

Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to make a major squad overhaul under Roberto De Zerbi this summer if they avoid relegation.

With three games remaining, they have their future in their own hands. They sit one point above West Ham and arguably need to get at least four more points to survive in the Premier League.

De Zerbi has already shown major improvement at Spurs. However, he will also look to revamp the squad in the summer to suit his playing style.

De Zerbi is keen on signing AS Roma stars at Tottenham

The north London side are set to have multiple players depart this summer. Guglielmo Vicario is set to join Inter Milan. Spurs will also need to strengthen their attack, which has been disappointing this season.

According to Football365, De Zerbi is keen for Tottenham to sign Mile Svilar and Lorenzo Pellegrini this summer. The duo have been exceptional for AS Roma and could be huge signings for Spurs.

Svilar was named the Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year last year and is in the running for the award this year as well. He has kept 16 clean sheets in 35 league games for Roma and is behind only Jean Butez on the charts. Aside from being a good shotstopper, Svilar is also really good with his feet.

Pellegrini, meanwhile, came through Roma’s academy and returned to the club after a two-year spell at Sassuolo between 2015 and 2017. He has made 349 appearances for the Italian giants, recording 62 goals and 63 assists.

The 29-year-old is primarily an attacking midfielder but can operate in multiple areas of attack. With Xavi Simons suffering an ACL injury, Pellegrini could be a good option for Spurs.

Tottenham will face major competition for the duo’s signature

Svilar has been exceptional for Roma, leading to interest from the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Inter Milan, and AC Milan, apart from Tottenham.

His contract expires in 2030, and he will cost around £60 million this summer. This would make him one of the most expensive goalkeepers of all-time in terms of transfer fees.

Meanwhile, Pellegrini’s contract with Roma expires this summer. However, Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that he could sign a new contract, with the head coach Gian Piero Gasperini an admirer of the midfielder. Juventus have also been linked with the Italy international.

Both Svilar and Pellegrini would make a lot of sense for Tottenham. Not only are they excellent players, but they would also fit in well with De Zerbi’s style.

However, any potential transfer will hinge on whether or not they remain in the Premier League.
