- Two wins in two games for Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur moved out of the relegation zone with a priceless 2-0 win against Aston Villa.
The north London side started brightly and maintained that throughout the first half. They maintained their shape out of possession and pressed brilliantly. Conor Gallagher (12’) then scored an incredible goal from outside the box after the ball fell to him after a long throw.
Spurs continued their pressure and good performance, as Joao Palhinha forced an excellent save from Emi Martinez from a long shot.
Richarlison then scored in the 25th minute, getting on the end of an incredible cross from Mathys Tel. The Frenchman also had some good opportunities, but his decision-making let him down.
Much of the second half followed a similar pattern. While Spurs didn’t create a lot of chances, they managed the game really well and didn’t allow Villa any chances either.
The hosts then made a number of changes, bringing on the likes of Ollie Watkins, which allowed them to gain some possession in Tottenham’s half. However, they didn’t cause Antonin Kinsky many issues. Emi Buendia scored late in stoppage time for Villa, but it was merely a consolation goal.
Roberto De Zerbi set Spurs up brilliantly on the night, and it was executed to perfection.
The win now sees them climb out of the relegation zone. With three games remaining, Tottenham’s future is back in their hands and they also have momentum on their side.
Tottenham Player Ratings against Wolves
Antonin Kinsky – 8/10
He didn’t really have much to do, but his passing was really good. He also dealt well with Villa’s set pieces.
Pedro Porro – 6.5/10
He was largely good on the day and showed some good combinations with Randal Kolo Muani. However, sometimes he moved forward, leading to some gaps in defence in the first half. He tidied up well in the second half.
Kevin Danso – 7/10
He had multiple duels with Tammy Abraham as Villa tried to go long at times, and Danso dealt with them really well. He made a poor pass in the second half, but was bailed out by Micky van de Ven.
He also dealt well in the second half after Villa threw in some crosses in the box.
Micky van de Ven – 7/10
He didn’t have much to do in the game, but dealt largely neatly with the little that came his way. The Dutchman also pulled one really good last-man clearance.
Destiny Udogie – 7/10
He was really good off the ball. Made numerous runs to support Tel and largely kept Jadon Sancho silent in the defensive sense.
Udogie was quite composed on the ball as well and combined well with Tel and Van de Ven.

Conor Gallagher – 9/10
It was easily Gallagher’s best performance for Spurs. In perhaps his first big moment in a Tottenham shirt, he scored an absolutely stunning goal in the 12th minute. He pressed really well and also connected well with the ball.
Joao Palhinha – 7/10
In his first start under Roberto De Zerbi, Palhinha was excellent in and out of possession. He snuffed out Villa’s dangers most times and also tested Emi Martinez with a long-range effort.
Rodrigo Bentancur – 9/10
He was imperial as he’s been under De Zerbi. Snuffed out Villa’s dangers regularly, while being calm and composed on the ball. He was everywhere on the pitch and looked like his pre-ACL self.

Mathys Tel – 6.5/10
He was excellent and always an outlet on the left wing, but often wasteful. He created some opportunities, but mainly provided an immaculate cross for Richarlison’s goal.
Richarlison – 7/10
As always, he worked his socks off out of possession. He also scored an excellent goal and linked up well with his teammates. He didn’t get many chances, but eased the pressure on Spurs whenever they faced any.
Randal Kolo Muani – 6/10
His pressing was really good, and he pressured Villa into making some mistakes. He was also much better on the ball than usual, but still couldn’t really make much of the possession.
Substitutes:
Yves Bissouma – 6/10
He replaced Bentancur and was largely tidy. He struggled to put in a similar performance as he’s done from the start under De Zerbi.
Djed Spence – 6/10
He brought real energy to the right wing and made some good runs. However, he was also a bit wasteful in the few opportunities he got.
