Cathinka Tandberg makes foul-mouthed claim about Tottenham’s relegation struggles

At a glance:

  • Cathinka Tandberg on Tottenham men’s struggles
  • She believes they will avoid relegation
  • Martin Ho insists the women’s team will be unaffected

Tottenham Hotspur’s men’s team is staring at the prospect of relegation from the Premier League for the first time in their history.

The north London side are two points away from safety with just five games remaining. They are on a 15-game winless streak in the Premier League. Spurs now must win at least three of their remaining games to avoid relegation.

On the other hand, Tottenham’s women’s team have been doing fairly well. Despite a three-game losing streak, they are sixth in the WSL standings. This comes after they finished second from bottom last season.

Cathinka Tandberg opens up on Tottenham’s relegation battle

Tandberg has been a huge Spurs supporter since her childhood. She used to travel to White Hart Lane with her father to watch Tottenham’s games. She then joined the women’s teams from Hammarby IF last summer.

In an interview with The Athletic, she opened up about watching her team battling relegation and said:

“I didn’t know what Spursy meant until I moved here. I’ve always watched Spurs, but for me, Tottenham, it’s a Champions League club.

“They’ve just been unlucky this season. Of course, I have to separate it because I can’t be sad every day because they’re being threatened with relegation, which, of course, is s***, but I don’t think it’ll happen. I really don’t. I just try to stay positive.”

Both Tottenham sides have huge games this weekend. The men’s team will face relegated Wolves away on Saturday and hope to win their first Premier League game of 2026.

Meanwhile, the women’s team will host Manchester United women, who are seven points above them, on Sunday. Notably, Spurs women have never beaten Manchester United in WSL history.

Martin Ho opens up about Tottenham’s women’s team future

For many women’s sides in club football, the revenue and development often depend on the success of the men’s teams. This is especially true for clubs like Tottenham, whose women’s teams are relatively newer than their rivals.

Hence, there might be a concern that the women’s team could be affected if the Spurs men get relegated. However, Spurs women’s head coach, Martin Ho, has asserted that his side will remain unaffected, saying:

“We’ll be in a good place [even if the men’s team suffers relegation]. The leadership want to support the team, make sure we’re progressing so that won’t affect us.”

After a terrible last season, the Tottenham hierarchy has shown some improvement on the women’s side. They appointed Ho as coach and have signed some excellent players like Tandberg, Toko Koga, Signe Gaupset, and more.

Hence, they must ensure this development continues even if the men’s team gets relegated.
