When Tottenham parted ways with Igor Tudor, Adi Hutter was one of the names linked with the managerial position.
Roberto De Zerbi eventually took over the reins on a five-year deal, but it could have so easily been another firefighter on board for the North London club as they face a race against time to avoid relegation.
Sean Dyche was linked with a move to N17, while Adi Hutter also had strong admirers within the Tottenham hierarchy.
Almost two weeks have passed since De Zerbi signed on the dotted line. And now, Hutter has broken his silence on why he didn’t really consider a move to the club.
Hutter against temporary stints
The Austrian hasn’t managed in the Premier League but has been around the block in Europe for nearly two decades now.
After leaving his role at Monaco earlier in the season, he has been a free agent.
And when reports emerged that he could replace Tudor, Hutter revealed that he doesn’t want to manage again until the start of next season.
Now, he has doubled down on those claims in an interview with 90 Minuten. Hutter feels he wouldn’t have had the time to imprint his philosophy at Tottenham as they are in a dire situation in the relegation battle.

“When you arrive somewhere where things are in crisis, you never have the opportunity to develop your playing philosophy in 10 or 12 games.
“You have to adopt a completely different approach to coaching and management. I never wanted that. That’s why I communicated quickly and clearly that I only want to return in the summer.”
He added, “I’ve been linked with Lazio and Tottenham Hotspur. Of course, I could say it’s an honour to be a topic of discussion with those clubs.
“But I’m not the type to broadcast every inquiry or discussion. That’s not my style, and I don’t think it’s fair to the clubs.
Tottenham did the right thing
Things aren’t looking good for the club in terms of the relegation battle as the likes of Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and West Ham United have started to find form.
However, another interim manager at the helm wouldn’t have been an ideal solution given that they’d have to repeat the process in the summer.

De Zerbi’s Tottenham contract doesn’t have a relegation clause, so he is well and truly here for the long haul.
The Lilywhites are in a dire situation and will hope things change against Brighton as they prepare for an important Premier League clash on Saturday.
