Spurs accept Newcastle’s bid for Townsend

Tottenham Hotspur have accepted a £12millon bid from Newcastle United for winger Andros Townsend.

Townsend is a product of the Spurs academy but endured a very bumpy journey to get to the first team. He had loan spells with nine different clubs before his breakthrough season in 2013/14.

Townsend hasn’t started a league game for Spurs this season, with his last appearance coming in the Europa League in October and he has appeared to have fallen down the pecking order at Spurs having featured mostly for the under 21’s this season.

Townsend has been demoted since he had a bust-up with fitness coach Nathan Gardiner earlier this season and doesn’t seem to be in Mauricio’s plans as he looks to take Spurs back into the Champions League.

Newcastle have been linked with a move for the England international over the last few weeks, and now it appears that they have their man.
