Tottenham interested in £20m Sporting Lisbon striker

Tottenham are interested in bringing Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani as competition for Harry Kane, but face competition from London rivals West Ham United.

According to Squawka , Sporting have placed a valuation of £20m on their 27-year-old striker. Spurs are rumoured to be willing to pay the asking price due to their worry of a lack of back-up for Harry Kane, with Clinton N’Jie struggling to adapt to the Premier League, whilst Son has spent a significant amount of the season on the sidelines due to injury.

Slimani, who has been at Sporting Lisbon since 2013, has scored 31 goals in 75 games for the Portuguese side and this season has scored 8 goals in 12 games. He also has an impressive record for the Algerian national team, with 18 goals in 40 appearances since making his debut in 2012.

If Slimani is brought to White Hart Lane, it would bring back memories of a certain striker who was approaching his late 20’s with a decent record in a foreign league, the new Roberto Soldado anyone? With a price tag of £20m, he would be under pressure to deliver immediately.
