Eric Dier has received his first call-up to the England senior squad ahead of the friendlies against Spain and France later this month.
Dier, who has played regularly for the U-21’s has impressed since moving into central midfield at the start of the season after previously playing right-back and centre-back for Spurs. He has also formed a great partnership with Dele Alli, who himself received his first call-up for last month’s European Championship qualifiers.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Roy Hodgson spoke about Dier’s inclusion:
“Eric Dier has done very well.”
“There are not a lot of players like that available to us. It is a good opportunity to see what he can do for us. He has been a key figure for Tottenham in this campaign.”
Dier will be competing for a place in central midfield with Fabian Delph, Michael Carrick, James Milner and Dele Alli.
Also included in the squad are his fellow Spurs team-mates Harry Kane, Kyle Walker and Dele Alli.
However, winger Andros Townsend misses out after barely playing for Tottenham in recent weeks.
