Lamela nominated for UEFA award

Erik Lamela has been nominated for the 2014/15 UEFA Goal of the Season award for his effort against Asteras Tripolis.

The Argentinian’s ‘rabona’ goal from last October’s Europa League fixture is one of ten strikes in contention to win the award – which recognizes the best goals from all UEFA competitions last season.

Aaron Ramsey is also up for the prize after his Champions League strike against Galatasaray, whilst Cristiano Roanldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar are amongst other players competing for the gong.

23-year-old Lamela has been an inconsistent performer since his £25m from Roma, making just 38 Premier League appearances and scoring twice in two seasons at the club.

His two goals in the 5-1 victory over Tripolis remain as one of the player’s high-points during his time at White Hart Lane, although his efforts in that game were largely overshadowed by a hat-trick from Harry Kane.

Voting takes place on the UEFA.com website and closes on Tuesday 25 August.
