Fiorentina manager Paulo Sousa wants to sign Vlad Chiriches, but will not pay £7m for his signature.
According to reports from Italy, the former Swansea boss is a long-term admirer of the centre-back, and is now the subject of major interest from the Serie A side after failed attempts to bring him to Basel last year.
Sousa is refusing to accept Spurs’ valuation of the player, however, and is holding out for a loan move with a view to a permanent move next summer, despite Tottenham’s desire to offload him permanently.
The Romania captain has made just 25 Premier League appearances since joining White Hart Lane for £6.8m, and Spurs boss Mauricio Pocchetino wants to recoup what the club paid Steaua Bucharest in 2013.
However, Sousa remains confident of hammering out a deal for the 25-year-old, who seems surpless to requirements at Tottenham this year after the signing of Toby Alderweireld.
It is not the first time that the club have failed to negotiate a deal away from the club for Chiriches, after a loan offer from Italian rivals Roma was rebuffed in January.
