Tottenham are currently stuck in a rut as they find themselves rooted to the bottom of the Premier League standings.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side are winless in the competition this season and need some of their big players to come to the fore to put some wins on the board.
Micky van de Ven faces a race against time to be fit to face Manchester United after suffering an injury while representing the Netherlands.
A lot has been said about the Tottenham captain in recent weeks, but Ledley King has reserved special praise for the Dutchman as he continues to make a mark at the club.
Ledley King lauds Tottenham captain Micky van de Ven
“I think he’s a fantastic player. His new role now is to make the players around him better.
“I think Micky takes care of himself. His ability to recover and put fires out is something we’ve seen over the last few years.
“That’s an important element for the team,” said the 45-year-old at Spurs’ recent Hall of Fame event via Football London.
“So, I think the next role is to manage the group and get the best out of the group as a team.
“He’s grown into the role. Having seen Micky on the pitch, he leads by example, for sure. I think he was the right choice to be captain.”
Van de Ven has had his ups and downs, but he loves the club and rejected other offers to sign a contract extension this summer.
Tottenham need the Dutchman to make a full recovery as quickly as possible as they prepare to take on Manchester United in what could be an important game of Premier League football.
Speedy recovery, skipper!
