During the back end of last season, it appeared as if Micky van de Ven would leave Tottenham Hotspur regardless of how the relegation battle turned out.
However, Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival breathed new life into the club, due to which he decided to stay and sign a new contract.
Van de Ven was also named Tottenham captain after Cristian Romero’s departure to Atletico Madrid was announced, which confirmed his status as one of De Zerbi’s pillars.
But now, if reports from England are to be believed, Liverpool are keeping tabs on the Dutch international.
Tottenham captain Micky van de Ven linked with Liverpool
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown believes the Reds view Van de Ven as a long-term option to add more depth to their backline.
“Van de Ven is somebody who has been on Liverpool’s radar for a long time,” said Brown to Football Insider via Caught Offside.
“He’s certainly somebody who would fit the bill when they’re looking to replace Van Dijk, because he’s left-sided, physically dominant, he’s the captain at Tottenham too.
“I do have my concerns because he’s been a big part of the Spurs side that has really struggled, but his individual talent is clear, so Liverpool could rescue him from that nightmare.
“He certainly ticks a lot of boxes, and if Tottenham continue to struggle then I expect a move to Liverpool will be appealing for him.”
If the current season goes horribly wrong for Tottenham, Van de Ven might look to move on to greener pastures.
However, as things stand, talks of a potential departure shouldn’t even be encouraged as we’re only a few weeks into the new season.
