Kevin Danso could be heading towards a late Tottenham Hotspur exit after Sunderland reopened talks over a permanent move for the defender.
The Black Cats had already seen a loan proposal rejected by Spurs, but have now returned to the negotiating table with discussions centred around signing Danso permanently.
BBC Sport, via Yahoo Sports reports that club-to-club talks are progressing, although Tottenham and Sunderland have not yet reached an agreement.
Personal terms are also not expected to cause a problem should the clubs settle on a fee.
Sunderland step up Kevin Danso pursuit
The latest development comes after Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that Danso has asked to leave Tottenham.
As ReadTottenham reported on Sunday, the Austrian approached De Zerbi to make his desire for a move clear after slipping down the defensive pecking order.
Sunderland subsequently made their move.
Sky Sports previously reported that Tottenham rejected an initial loan offer for the centre-back.
The newly-promoted side have now changed their approach and opened discussions over a permanent deal.
Tottenham’s position remains significant.
BBC Sport reports that Spurs are likely to want a replacement before sanctioning Danso’s departure, with De Zerbi seeking a defender who already has Premier League experience.
Danso originally joined Tottenham from Lens in January 2025 before the transfer became permanent later that year for £20.9million.
The 27-year-old now appears increasingly likely to leave north London if Sunderland can find an agreement with Spurs before the transfer deadline.
