Tottenham suffer damaging blow in race for £85m attacker

Tottenham have made six new signings this summer but have thus far been unable to reinforce their attack.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side continue to scour the market for attacking players, but with time running out, they need to step up their interest in the coming days.

Tottenham have been locked in talks to sign Savinho and Cody Gakpo this summer.

And while Liverpool have thus far been reluctant to part with the Dutchman, it now appears as if Manchester City could put the brakes on any move for Savinho due to an injury to Jeremy Doku.

Manchester City may refuse to sell Savinho to Tottenham

Savinho is valued at around £85m and has been pursued by Tottenham for over a year now.

However, the two sides have been unable to agree a fee, although they remain locked in talks.

There was a belief that a deal could be done before the summer transfer window slams shut.

And now, various sources have confirmed that City could be without Doku for several weeks after the Belgian international suffered a calf injury in pre-season.

Now, Doku and Savinho play on opposite flanks, so this may not directly affect Tottenham.

That said, with one of their main first-team attackers set to spend a spell on the sidelines, Enzo Maresca might decide against trimming his squad further with the sale of Savinho.

Tottenham need to know one way or another if they are signing Savinho this week, which would give them at least another week to pivot to alternatives if needed.
