Tottenham Set Cristian Romero Price As Barcelona And Inter Milan Chase Captain

Tottenham Hotspur have set a valuation of around £50m for captain Cristian Romero as Barcelona, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid all continue to weigh up a move for the Argentina international this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Inter Milan have already held exploratory talks over Romero after the defender’s situation was raised during separate discussions with Spurs over Djed Spence, with the Nerazzurri understood to view any fee close to €60m as too rich for their budget. Romero’s own preference, per Romano, remains a return to Spain, with Barcelona the club he favours. David Ornstein has separately reported that Tottenham value the 28-year-old at close to £50m and that Romero has spoken with Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone as a rival move to the La Liga club also gathers pace.

Roberto De Zerbi Already Building Life After Romero

The valuation gap is significant enough that neither Inter nor Barcelona has yet lodged a formal bid, but Tottenham’s business elsewhere suggests the club are braced for their captain’s exit. Roberto De Zerbi has already brought in Marcos Senesi on a free transfer and completed a deal for Jan Paul van Hecke this summer, giving the head coach two ready-made options at centre-back should Romero depart.

Romero has captained Tottenham since 2024 and was central to the club’s Europa League triumph in 2025, making him a reluctant sale even at a favourable price. Spurs are not thought to be actively shopping the Argentine, but with Barcelona monitoring the situation under Hansi Flick and Atletico’s interest now public via Ornstein, the north London club look increasingly resigned to negotiating an exit before the transfer window closes.

For now, Tottenham’s asking price stands firm, and the next move belongs to Romero’s suitors.
