Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the departure of Luka Vuskovic, with the Croatia international’s move to Brighton & Hove Albion agreed in a deal worth up to £50m.
Spurs announced on their official club website that the two sides had “reached agreement” for the 19-year-old defender’s transfer, ending a stint in north London in which he never made a competitive appearance for the first team. According to Sky Sports, the fee is structured as an initial £46m with a further £4m in add-ons, alongside a 20 per cent sell-on clause and matching rights protecting Tottenham if Vuskovic fulfils his potential elsewhere. The move comes with Vuskovic away at the World Cup with Croatia, for whom he made his senior debut last month against England.
Jan Paul Van Hecke And Marcos Senesi Arrivals Ended Vuskovic’s Path To Regular Football
The exit follows Tottenham’s busy summer rebuild under Roberto De Zerbi, with Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi’s arrivals pushing Vuskovic down the pecking order behind Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven too. Brighton’s fee makes him their club-record signing, surpassing the £40m paid to Leeds United for Georginio Rutter in 2024, and he leaves as one of Tottenham’s most expensive sales without a single first-team appearance.
Vuskovic joined Spurs from Hajduk Split in 2023 as a 16-year-old for around £9.5m and spent last season on loan at Hamburger SV, scoring six goals in 30 appearances and emerging as one of the Bundesliga’s standout young defenders. That form, plus his World Cup exposure, is what pushed Brighton to return with an improved bid after an earlier £45m offer was rejected.
With the fee banked, Tottenham’s attention now turns back to finishing their midfield business, with De Zerbi’s squad overhaul still expected to bring further additions before the window closes.
