  • Roberto De Zerbi says Tottenham needs signings but not an overhaul
  • Spurs avoided relegation with a 1-0 win against Everton
  • Italian has breathed new life into Tottenham since his arrival

It’s safe to say Roberto De Zerbi has already proved to be Tottenham Hotspur’s saviour after spearheading the club to Premier League safety.

The North London outfit secured a deserved 1-0 win against Everton earlier today to confirm their 17th-place finish, with West Ham United dropping down to the Championship at their expense.

De Zerbi’s arrival has already caused quite the stir at the club as he has got Tottenham playing a brand of attractive football while also getting results.

And now, the Italian feels the Lilywhites still have some work to do in the upcoming summer transfer window.

De Zerbi says Tottenham don’t need an overhaul

Tottenham have been ravaged by injuries this season, which has led to their struggles.

However, it goes without saying that when everyone is fit, they have a squad capable of competing at the top half of the Premier League table at the very least.

De Zerbi feels Tottenham already have a few ‘big’ players, but need a couple more who can walk straight into the starting XI and make them better.

“We worked well but I’m lucky because we have a lot of big players,” said the Italian to Sky Sports after the game.

“You can see the game today and see that under big pressure, they played fantastically with the ball. Maybe it was the best performance in my time here.

“It was an incredible game. The football was nice because if you give your best, then the results will come.

“I suffered a lot through the game but my life is so nice because of the pressure in football. Without that pressure, it would not be nice.”

“Next season, we have to build a top, top, top team. We don’t have to change too many players in our squad but we have to bring in some first-level players.”

Tottenham already planning for the summer

Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson have both agreed deals to join Tottenham. And now that they are officially set to remain in the Premier League, those two signings are expected to be confirmed before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Senesi and Robertson’s impending arrivals will add some much-needed experience and cover to their pre-existing defensive options. Both players will join on free transfers, which would also allow Tottenham to splurge on other areas of the pitch.

We wrote immediately after the game on Read Tottenham that Joao Palhinha needs to be signed permanently as his loan deal is close to completion.

Sorting out these three signings could give Tottenham a proper base to build on, with attacking reinforcements also expected in the coming months.

It was a tough season, but the overwhelming feeling is one of relief and cautious optimism for what the future holds. Thank you, Roberto.
