Tottenham Hotspur are already making plans to revitalise their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window under Roberto De Zerbi.

And now, Andy Robertson has confirmed that he was close to joining the club in January before changing his mind.

The North London outfit are expected to be busy in the summer, but the quality of the players they sign will depend on whether or not they remain in the Premier League.

With just one game left for the current campaign to conclude, Robertson has made a fresh claim on links to Tottenham as he prepares to leave Liverpool as a free agent.

Andy Robertson confirms Tottenham Hotspur transfer links

The Scottish international has been one of the best left-backs in the Premier League since joining Liverpool from Hull City in 2017.

He has won every major trophy with the Reds and is all set to lead Scotland at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Tottenham already have a verbal agreement to sign Robertson if they avoid relegation.

And now, the experienced defender has revealed that he was close to joining the club in January.

“Tottenham was close in January. I am not going to deny that. It was a serious consideration, but it did not happen,” said Robertson on The Overlap.

Thomas Frank was still in charge of the club then and Tottenham opted to sign Souza, who has only featured sparingly for the club since joining from Santos.

Thiago Alcantara referred to Robertson as a Liverpool ‘legend,’ which goes to show just how highly regarded the Scotsman actually is.

Tottenham need a lot more than Robertson this summer

Robertson is an experienced campaigner and would be a welcome addition to the club’s leadership group under De Zerbi.

However, if Tottenham want to become a competitive force again, they need a few more signings as the competition is as good as it’s been in the Premier League.

Marcos Senesi also has a verbal agreement to join Tottenham and the Argentine could be an inspired addition, more so on a free transfer.

De Zerbi should also look to target a deeper midfielder and an attacker or two as Spurs have struggled across the board this season.

However, their primary focus will be to avoid relegation as they prepare for their all-important clash against Everton on Sunday.
