Roberto De Zerbi has breathed new life into Tottenham as they continue to battle to avoid the drop.

In an exclusive interview with Read Tottenham via freebets.com, the home of the best betting sites, Sebastian Bassong has made an interesting claim on whether or not they can finish in the Premier League top four next season.

All that talk remains on the back burner for the time being, though, as Tottenham still have work to do to secure their Premier League status.

And their home form, in particular, has been a big issue this season.

Bassong on why Tottenham have struggled at home

Tottenham’s last home win in the Premier League came on the 6th of December 2025 under Thomas Frank when they secured a 2-0 victory against Brentford.

Since then, they have won just three games in the competition and each of them has come on their travels, raising question marks over their form at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And Bassong feels the general lack of confidence in the squad is one of the main reasons behind their struggles in front of their home fans.

“I think it’s pretty obvious that confidence is still very low in the squad, from how they have performed this season.

“I believe at home it has been a real problem for the team, given they haven’t won for so long. They need belief, they need confidence, they need to know the crowd wants them to win and put more into these games.

“They seem fragile when they concede a goal, so they must look to change the mentality that they respond positively to conceding a goal.

“They must believe in their ability, they have good players, they have the potential, so the belief from De Zerbi can really help them as a squad.”

In two home Premier League games under De Zerbi, Spurs have picked up just two points, with draws against Brighton and Leeds United, respectively.

Bassong makes Champions League admission

Earlier this month, Jamie O’Hara tipped Tottenham to challenge for a UEFA Champions League spot next season if they avoid relegation this season.

When asked about his former teammate’s comments, Bassong doubled down on claims that Tottenham can get European football if they improve their home form and retain the likes of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, who have been linked with departures.

“Why not? De Zerbi has Premier League experience,” continued Bassong.

“He has done well at Brighton and Marseille. If Spurs can improve on their home form and make it a fortress, then it’s possible.

“It’s difficult to understand why at home they can’t win a game, but hopefully they can get a win against Everton and then push on to next season.

“If they can get their top players back, keep Romero and Van de Ven, then why not? Spurs are a big club, with good recruitment; they can improve for sure.”

Tottenham’s next Premier League clash is on Monday as they travel to Stamford Bridge to take on a wounded Chelsea side.

After that, they will wind up the season with a home clash against Everton. With just two games to go, their primary focus will be on surviving relegation, especially with West Ham United breathing down their necks.
