  • Tottenham star tipped to replace Bernardo Silva
  • Silva will leave Manchester City this summer
  • Spurs could see a mass exodus if they get relegated

Tottenham Hotspur are facing the possibility of a major squad overhaul this summer, either voluntary or involuntary.

The north London side are in the relegation zone after 34 Premier League games this season. If they get relegated, many players are expected to leave.

However, some players will also leave even if they stay in the Premier League.

With their precarious situation, many top European clubs are monitoring Tottenham players for a potential transfer. Most of their young players have especially caught the eye of pundits as well.

Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall backed to replace Bernardo Silva

Manchester City have confirmed that club legend Bernardo Silva will leave the club this summer after nine years.

Hence, they will be in the market for a replacement for one of their most important players in recent years.

Former Sweden midfielder Anders Limpar believes Tottenham star Lucas Bergvall could be that replacement. Backing his compatriot, he told NewBettingSites:

“You can’t replace players like this. A player is going somewhere and a different replacement is going to come in.

“We’re definitely going to see another player come in at Manchester City and if Tottenham go down [relegated into the Championship], I can actually see Lucas Bergvall as the replacement to Bernardo Silva.”

“He is a much, much better option because he can be that engine. He’s young. He’s mobile. He’s a very intelligent player. He has four lungs,” he added.

Spurs signed Bergvall from Djurgarden in January 2024, but he stayed at the Swedish club on loan until that summer.

Since his arrival, the 20-year-old has made 76 appearances, scoring two goals and providing nine assists.

Losing Bergvall would be a huge blow for Tottenham

It took a bit of time for Bergvall to settle in the Premier League physically and in terms of quality. However, after January 2025, he became a key player under Ange Postecoglou.

He even won all the fan-voted Tottenham End of the Season awards. Postecoglou labeled him “outstanding” in a press conference last year, highlighting his ability to take responsibility.

The Swede has struggled this season, but that has largely got to do with him being played out of position by Thomas Frank.

Moreover, the entire team has struggled, which has hampered the development of the young players. However, there is no denying that Bergvall is a supreme talent, as Spurs even beat Barcelona for his signature.

Bergvall wants to stay at Tottenham if they stay in the Premier League.

The likes of Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Liverpool have been linked with the Swede. However, Spurs must make their best efforts to keep their young talents at the club. His contract expires in 2031, giving them some negotiation power as well.
