At a glance:

  • Tottenham conduct background checks for Ayase Ueda
  • Striker set to represent Japan at 2026 FIFA World Cup
  • Other Premier League clubs also keen

Ayase Ueda is a name unknown to the Tottenham fan base, but the striker’s exploits this season haven’t gone unnoticed.

The North London outfit have struggled for goals this season and find themselves in the relegation zone with just four Premier League games left to play.

A lot of Tottenham’s transfer business will hinge on whether or not they secure their Premier League status.

And now, if reports are to be believed, the same could be true for Ueda, who is firmly on the club’s radar.

Tottenham make background checks for Ayase Ueda

Solanke and Richarlison have blown hot and cold in recent seasons, while Randal Kolo Muani is set to return to PSG after his loan spell expires.

De Zerbi is set to be in the market for a striker in the summer and his search could take him to Feyenoord.

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham have already conducted background checks for the potential signing of Ueda, who is enjoying a breakthrough season with the Eredivisie side.

As we mentioned earlier, any deal for the Japan international will depend on Tottenham securing their Premier League status first.

However, they have already explored a move with a solid first step by conducting background checks, which is a sign that they are really interested in the player.

The report also states that other Premier League clubs are in the running for Ueda. Representatives from Leeds United, Everton and Brighton have watched the striker in action this season, so Tottenham aren’t alone in their pursuit.

Tottenham exploring Asian market

Ueda has scored 26 goals in all competitions for Feyenoord this season and finally seems like he’s come of age.

He also has 34 caps for Japan and could make his presence felt on the grandest stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup later this year.

De Zerbi will certainly look to add an attacker or two to his squad and Ueda could be one of his options.

Earlier this year, Tottenham were linked with a move for Keisuke Goto, who has earned rave reviews for his loan spell in Belgium.

Oh Hyeon-gyu also has keen admirers at N17 due to his exploits with Besiktas in Turkey.

The North London outfit have had some luck in the Asian market in recent years.

Obviously, Heung-min Son’s exploits at the club need no introduction, while they also snapped up South Korean starlet Yang Min-hyeok, who is on loan at Coventry City.

And from their pursuit of Ueda, it is clear they are trying to repeat their trick.

matchday.
