At a glance:
- Micky van de Ven to leave Tottenham
- Off-field affairs being tidied up
- Dutchman has a contract until 2029
Micky van de Ven has emerged as a big talking point for Tottenham on and off the pitch this season.
After two unbelievable seasons in North London, the Dutchman’s form has taken a bit of a battering during the current campaign.
Additionally, Van de Ven has been unwilling to commit to Tottenham as they find themselves in a relegation battle, which has led to suggestions that he could be on the move in the summer.
And now, reports from England have appeared to confirm those suggestions.
Van de Ven tying up loose ends
Whether or not Tottenham drop down to the Championship, some of their big hitters are likely to leave in the summer.
Despite Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival, the fact of the matter is that the Lilywhites simply aren’t an attractive destination anymore, as shown by their form this season.
And Van de Ven looks like he’s already preparing to bring his three-year stint at the club to a close. According to FourFourTwo, the Dutchman is in the process of tying up his off-field affairs in North London, which signals an imminent departure.
If he’s well settled and committed, that wouldn’t be the case, although Spurs won’t sell him for cheap.
Van de Ven joined Tottenham in the summer of 2024 for a fee believed to be in the region of £43m. He’s tied down at the club until 2029, making any cut-price deal unlikely even if they get relegated.
Tottenham’s defensive exodus
Much like Van de Ven, Cristian Romero has been linked with a Tottenham departure. The Argentine defender is likely to have played his last game for the club as he is expected to miss the rest of the season with an MCL injury.
Fiorentina want to sign Radu Dragusin, with former Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici currently overseeing the transfer at the Serie A side.
The North London side will have a massive hole in their rearguard if the aforementioned players leave.
De Zerbi already has his work cut out for him as Tottenham have too many problems to address, so the summer of 2026 could well test his limits.
Van de Ven already has one foot out of the door but will still be central to the Italian’s plans between now and the end of the season.
