Tottenham have been handed a major injury blow, with Mohammed Kudus suffering a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury.
The north London side is currently in a relegation battle with just seven games remaining. They appointed Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager last week, bringing in a new hope of survival. A big part of that hope for many Spurs fans was the potential return of Kudus.
However, on Thursday, Tottenham announced that Kudus might even have to undergo surgery for his setback. Reports suggest he might not play another game this season.
Essien shares his thoughts Tottenham star Mohammed Kudus
Tottenham signed Kudus from West Ham last summer, and he’s been excellent for them despite playing in a poor system under Thomas Frank. The winger was expected to be a key player under Roberto De Zerbi this season.
The 25-year-old is also a crucial player for Ghana, who are set to compete in the FIFA World Cup this summer. In an interview with FIFA last week, former Black Stars midfielder Michael Essien heaped praise on Kudus. He said:
“If I start talking about him [Kudus], we won’t finish! I think he has showcased himself to the football world. He’s one of the biggest talents and for Ghana, he’s our star. We have to protect him and give him all the love and confidence he needs.”

Kudus has made 46 appearances for Ghana, scoring 13 goals and providing six assists. Hence, his setback isn’t only a big blow for Tottenham but also for his national side.
With his season at club level expected to be over, the Black Stars will hope he can still recover in time for the World Cup. They are drawn against England, Croatia, and Panama in Group L.
Kudus’ injury could be huge in PL relegation battle
The Ghanaian winger has provided six assists in the Premier League this season, the most for Tottenham. Aside from that, he makes a huge impact with his hold-play and dribbling ability. He has the fourth-most dribbles in the league despite being out for over three months.
Moreover, his presence on the right wing also helps balance the Spurs team, allowing space for the likes of Mathys Tel, Xavi Simons, and Dominic Solanke.
The north London side have struggled in attack this season, with just 40 goals in 31 league games. They now have no right winger, with Brennan Johnson joining Crystal Palace in January and Wilson Odobert nursing an ACL injury.

De Zerbi will now need to come up with creative solutions if they are to earn wins in their remaining seven games.
Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor tried the likes of Randal Kolo Muani and Pedro Porro in the right wing position. And after Kudus’ latest setback, the Italian might look to follow in their footsteps.
