- Tottenham set to part ways with Igor Tudor
- Roberto De Zerbi could be persuaded to replace him
- North Londoners want the Italian now or in summer
Tottenham Hotspur are expected to soon be on the lookout for a new manager amid Igor Tudor’s anticipated departure. The Croatian coach is reportedly set to leave the club by mutual consent.
Tudor’s exit seems likely within the next 48 hours, and several names have been linked to replacing him. The Lilywhites are thought to be considering former AS Monaco boss Adi Hutter and ex-Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton.
Roberto De Zerbi is at the top of Spurs’ wishlist to take charge on a permanent basis. There have been claims that the Italian will only do so should the club remain in the Premier League next season.
Spurs Want De Zerbi Now
Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider has given an update on Tudor’s situation and suggested De Zerbi could, in fact, be appointed now rather than at the end of the season. He wrote on X:
“Igor Tudor is set to leave Tottenham in the next 24/48 hours. Roberto De Zerbi is the top target to come in if he can be convinced to take the job now rather than at the end of the season.”
A De Zerbi appointment would be a shocking turn of events, given he is one of Europe’s most highly-admired tacticians. To be able to persuade the former Brighton manager to take over a club embroiled in a relegation battle would be a massive achievement.
Spurs sit 17th in the Premier League table, just one point above the drop zone, with seven games left of the season. Tudor has failed to win any of his five league games and suffered a 3-0 defeat to relegation rivals Nottingham Forest at home on Sunday.
De Zerbi Could Make Instant Impact
The possibility of appointing De Zerbi in such a difficult period is one that Spurs fans are dreaming of. But this isn’t a time to get carried away with the threat of relegation, which is hard to ignore.
De Zerbi has rarely had to try to save teams from the drop, and he usually propels them into European qualification contention. That would ideally be the goal next season, should he indeed take over and guide the Lilywhites to safety.
The mood around the club does need a massive lift, and the 46-year-old is renowned for bringing players and fans together. He was a massive hit at Brighton, both from a tactical standpoint and his larger-than-life personality.
