AC Milan make Ceballos move – should Spurs step up their interest?

Reported Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Dani Ceballos is reportedly set to meet with AC Milan to discuss a move from Real Madrid – but should Spurs step up their interest?

TEAMtalk write that Ceballos is unhappy with Los Blancos and could be used as a potential makeweight in the deal to take Spurs playmaker Christian Eriksen.

The 22-year-old has been with the Spanish giants since 2017 and made 23 league appearances last season, scoring three goals.

He has often been compared to both Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, operating in the centre of midfield but always looking to probe the opposition’s defence by picking a killer pass.

His ball retention skills and ability to open up defences by moving the ball from side to side often create opportunities for team-mates to find space, something that Spurs can lack at times.

Furthermore, the midfielder has a defensive mindset and is able to read play well, providing vital interceptions and winning the ball back when his team needs him to do so.

The fact that he is more of a number 8 than a 10 mean he would provide competition for the likes of Harry Winks, Eric Dier, Dele Alli and Victor Wanyama, with Spurs’ midfield options being on the heavy side currently.

Overall, Ceballos would be a fantastic addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s young and hungry squad, but it remains to be seen at what price Madrid president Florentino Perez values him at.

The fact that he is under contract until 2023 and is likely to be on a significant wage may prove to be stumbling blocks, but moving Erisken in the other direction could prove vital to the negotiations.
