Tottenham are now entering one of the most important weeks of their season so far. With a trip to Stamford Bridge, the North London Derby and their Champions League second-leg tie against Borussia Dortmund all in the next seven days, Spurs need to be at their best.
After an out of character performance against Burnley, Mauricio Pochettino and his players need to pick themselves up and dust themselves off.
Wins over their London rivals this week will keep Spurs’ gap above Arsenal at seven points at the very least. Plus, however unlikely it may be, should Liverpool and Manchester City drop points in their next two games, Spurs could push themselves back into the title race.
On Wednesday evening, we have a repeat of one of this year’s Carabao Cup semi-finals. Spurs are known for having a terrible record away to Chelsea but have found success of late.
Let’s see if Tottenham can bounce back from their disappointment on Saturday.
Here’s how we think Spurs will line up:
GK: Hugo Lloris
The French skipper will take his place between the sticks yet again.
CB: Davinson Sanchez
After being rested at the weekend, Mauricio Pochettino will start the Colombian to strengthen his back-line.
CB: Toby Alderweireld
The first half of Tottenham’s Belgian defensive duo will start in the centre of a back three.
CB: Jan Vertonghen
Vertonghen will be hoping for a better day at the office for himself and his defensive colleagues this time out.
RWB: Kieran Trippier
The England international was also rested against Burnley and Pochettino could rotate on Spurs’ right flank yet again.
CM: Moussa Sissoko
The Frenchman has continued to perform this season and will be looking to break up Chelsea’s play in the heart of midfield.
CM: Harry Winks
Winks will be looking to build play through Chelsea’s defence when Spurs are in possession.
LWB: Danny Rose
After grabbing an assist against Burnley, Rose seems to be reaching full fitness again and should start for the second time in five days.
CAM: Christian Eriksen
After an excellent goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last season, Eriksen will be looking to replicate his previous performance.
ST: Harry Kane
Kane came back with a bang at the weekend and is currently two goals behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mohamed Salah in the Premier League scoring charts. He’ll certainly be looking to add to his tally against Chelsea.
ST: Heung-min Son
Heung-min Son and Harry Kane have been deadly when playing together for Spurs and the South Korean will be buzzing to be back with his strike partner.
