Three players that could bolster Spurs’ 2015-16 options

I’ve taken a look at some realistic players who Spurs could sign to improve their squad heading into next season:

James McCarthy

Tottenham desperately lacked the steel required in the central midfield area last season and were sometimes torn apart in that area. Everton’s James McCarthy could prove to be the solution to the problems. The 24-year-old Irish international produced an average of 2.5 successful tackles per game last year and clearly has time on his side should Pochettino launch a bid. He may be put off by Everton’s rumoured £20m asking price though, especially as he has Stambouli and Bentaleb on the books to play a similar role.

Kevin Mirallas

The Belgian openly admitted during the season he dreamt of playing Champions League football in the near future and whilst White Hart Lane would not be able to offer him that this term, him moving to the capital club could catapult them into the top 4. Since the scandal involving Mirallas taking and missing a penalty ahead of normal taker Leighton Baines in a goalless draw with West Brom, Mirallas has cut a forlorn figure in a Toffees shirt. Furthermore, he could provide some added attacking impetus down the right side of the Spurs midfield that the side have missed since Aaron Lennon passed his sell-by date.

Mattia Perin

As Manchester United up there summer spending with the proposed signings of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schniederlin, the rumours about David De Gea moving away from Old Trafford to fill Iker Casillas’ boots at Madrid and Hugo Lloris moving north to replace him rumble on. It is clear that, should the French international decide to move away, a new first choice goalkeeper would be required especially given some of Michel Vorm’s performances in cup competitions last term. Genoa’s Mattia Perin could be a perfect fit. The 22-year-old Italian has earned plaudits across Europe for his perfromances of late and it is surely only a matter of time before he moves to a bigger club. He made 32 appearances for Genoa last season and has also been capped by the Italian national side, a Spurs move for him could see another young player develop into a world class star at the Lane.
