Sandro Tonali was one of Tottenham’s big-money signings in what turned out to be a historic transfer window.
Roberto De Zerbi and co saw ten new faces arrive at the club, although a handful of key players like Cristian Romero, Guglielmo Vicario and Djed Spence departed.
Tonali was linked with a bunch of clubs across the continent but eventually decided to swap Newcastle United for Tottenham.
And now, his agent reveals De Zerbi played a big role in his transfer.
Sandro Tonali wanted to play under Roberto De Zerbi at Tottenham
Giuseppe Riso, his agent, said via TuttoMercatoWeb, “After Newcastle, Tottenham showed they’re choosing differently; they’re courageous.
“Tottenham was reborn after the end of the season; Tottenham survived, and De Zerbi came to the club, telling him they needed him as a leader.
“The relationship with De Zerbi carried a lot of weight.”
De Zerbi has revealed a handful of times already that he counts on Tonali as an important player and a leader, so their relationship is clearly as strong as it can be.
This will come as music to the ears of the Tottenham faithful and the only thing that can top it is for the Italian to return to his best and win them some games.
