‘People forget’ – Chris Waddle makes emphatic Tottenham claim

Tottenham are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League standings, which has raised questions over Roberto De Zerbi’s future at the club.

And naturally, a certain section of the Tottenham fan base has been clamouring for Mauricio Pochettino to return to the club.

The Argentine is held in high regard in North London and was one of the candidates to succeed Igor Tudor before De Zerbi got the job.

And Chris Waddle feels Spurs have already sacked him once, so he probably isn’t the right man to take the club back to where it belongs.

Chris Waddle makes bold Pochettino claim

“Mauricio Pochettino back to Spurs?” quipped Waddle via BetPack.

“People forget he was sacked for results. He had a great season; he came and they were Champions League finalists. It was amazing what he did. Obviously the team fell apart a bit, and he ended up getting sacked, and that’s football.

“So the fans will probably think, ‘Yeah, get him back,’ because he did well, but then you remember they got rid of him because he wasn’t getting results in the end.

“So listen, I think he’s got a lot of respect at Tottenham and rightly so, but is it a step forward? As I said, he had real highs and real lows there.

“People forget that they got rid of him; he didn’t walk away; they sacked him. Tottenham have had some great managers, really, honestly.

“You’ve had Mourinho and Conte who have won championships all over the world, and they still weren’t good enough for Tottenham.”

To be fair to Waddle, he’s got a point. Pochettino is a legend for whatever he achieved at the club, but that chapter is closed for the time being at least, so Tottenham fans need to move on from him and show their support for De Zerbi.
